First introduced to Liquid Music audiences as part of Jace Clayton’s Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner in its inaugural 2012.13 season, composer/vocalist Arooj Aftab is back—this time with music from her deeply layered and multi-faceted 2021 album Vulture Prince.
Pakistan-born, Brooklyn-based composer and vocalist Arooj Aftab’s liminal sound conjures together classical minimalism, Sufi devotional poetry, and electronic trance into pure states of being. The composer’s remarkable voice and signature songwriting style transports listeners to worlds once known. Quickly becoming an in-demand musical figure, Pitchfork called Aftab's most recent release Vulture Prince “an incandescent love letter to the light.”
