ERIKA DOHI: I, CASTORPOLLUX
DAVID FRIEND & JEROME BEGIN: POST–

New piano perspectives, shared evening

Saturday, March 12, 2022
8 pm music // 7 pm doors
The Parkway Theater
$25–$50

This remarkable double bill features music from two of the most innovative piano albums in recent memory. In I, Castorpollux, Erika Dohi charts a completely original path, employing genre-fluid composition and electro-acoustic experimentation to craft a singular album that is a virtuosic but emotionally generous convergence of the technical and the spiritual with the piano at its center. In Post-, David Friend collaborates with Jerome Begin to create an otherworldly collection of pieces for solo piano manipulated by live electronic processing that unfurls as an intricate electroacoustic tapestry of hybrid sonorities that recontextualize and transfigure the familiar sounds of the instrument. In each of these albums, the artists fundamentally reevaluate the concept of what ‘solo piano music' can be and do in the twenty-first century, diving headlong into uncharted territory and crashing through stylistic barriers and hidebound conventions to breathtaking effect along the way.

Please note: The Parkway Theater requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test result for entry to all events. This policy is detailed here.

Special thanks to The Schubert Club for donating the piano used in the performance, and to our hospitality sponsor the Minneapolis Club.
